Ontario Institute of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada

June 1, 2010
Dear OIPMAC Members:
I am pleased to inform you that the new Supply Chain Management Professional designation
(Certified SCMP) is now officially launched! In Ontario, the new designation is currently being embedded in the provincial legislative Act governing OIPMAC and its members. This will ensure that the Certified SCMP is recognized in statutory law as a bona fide professional designation with all rights and privileges.
Under our amended Act, OIPMAC certified Members will continue to have the right to use the C.P.P designation, in addition to the new supply chain management designation. However, if you are a C.P.P., we encourage you to begin using the new designation title and trade-mark as appropriate in all your business communications (business cards, letters, promotional literature, e-mail signatures, etc.). You have the option of placing either the abbreviated SCMP/Supply Chain Management Professional title, or the full CSCMP/Certified Supply Chain Management Professional designation title, after your name.
In the coming weeks, C.P.P.s in Ontario will all be issued new certificates recognizing them as Certified Supply Chain Management Professionals. Logistical details will follow.
The new designation reflects our expanded field of practice of strategic supply chain management. It marks an evolution and elevation of the profession beyond our roots in purchasing.
OIPMAC is working with its partner Institutes across the country and the PMAC National office to
co-ordinate the roll-out of the new designation. Beginning in September 2010, you will see a national ad campaign in business magazines, trade publications and on web sites that introduces the new designation as part of our comprehensive marketing communications plan.
The goal is to ensure that employers, prospective members and other stakeholders understand the unique and distinctive competencies of our supply chain management professionals. Representing strategic, global and integrated thinking, the new designation conveys that we are experts in the multiple aspects of supply chain management or SCM, adhering to the highest professional and ethical standards. The new designation positions our members as leaders in a changing marketplace.
Our new logo supports this positioning. Designed to capture the value proposition of the Supply Chain Management certified professional, the logo features an infinity symbol that signifies an unbroken network that stretches from supplier to customer. The three links comprise the core areas of our field: procurement, operations and logistics. Our teal colour is dignified and allows us to build on the brand recognition of the C.P.P.
I look forward to working with you during this exciting time for the profession as we build awareness of our new designation and recognition of the expertise of our members. If you have any questions, please contact our office at tel. (416) 977-7566, toll-free 1-877-726-6968, e-mail: info@ontarioinstitute.com.
Sincerely,

R. David Fletcher
