Candidate Endorsed by OIPMAC to Fill an Elected Director Position on the PMAC National Board: Sandra A. Gilmer, CSCMP
March 17, 2011
To OIPMAC Members and Associates
Dear Colleague:
On January 31, 2011, I notified you that in the coming weeks you would be receiving a notice from the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) calling for an Expression of Interest to serve in the role of Elected Director on the PMAC National Board of Directors. That notice was issued by PMAC on February 1, 2011. I indicated to you at that time that your Provincial Institute has tried to encourage strong candidates from Ontario to stand for the Elected Director positions on the PMAC National Board. In so doing, OIPMAC has traditionally endorsed one strong nominee from Ontario to run for election to the PMAC National Board when Elected Director positions become available.
During the last several weeks, OIPMAC’s Nominations Committee reviewed the qualifications of several potential candidates, including their expertise in the SCM field, their knowledge of the challenges facing the profession, and their governance experience. One candidate was subsequently referred to the OIPMAC Board of Directors for further assessment. Following a careful review, the OIPMAC Board approved endorsement of the Nominations Committee’s recommended candidate.
I am pleased to announce that the nominee from Ontario that OIPMAC is endorsing to run for the Elected Director position on the PMAC National Board this year is
Sandra A. Gilmer, CSCMP.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO GOVERN OUR PROFESSION EFFECTIVELY
For more than 20 years, Sandra has built a professional career in procurement management, initially in the pharmaceutical industry working with GlaxoSmithKline Inc. and Bayer Canada Inc. In 2008 Sandra moved to IPEX Management Inc., part of the Aliaxis group of global companies focusing on building supply products. As Purchasing Manager, Resale Products, Sandra is a major contributor to the design and implementation of the supply chain vision, strengthening the management of various product supply chains to fulfill customer needs.
As many OIPMAC members likely know, Sandra has had extensive experience in the governance of the Ontario Institute at many levels. Sandra joined OIPMAC in 1978 as a member of the then Toronto District, and subsequently became a member of the board of the Mississauga District. In 1989, she became the Founding President of the Brampton District. Sandra was elected to the OIPMAC Board in 2005, serving five successive terms on the OIPMAC Board. During this period she served as Treasurer, Vice Chair, and Chair of the OIPMAC Board for the 2007-2008 and 2008-2009 association years.
Many individuals who run for election to the PMAC National Board have come up through the ranks of their provincial and territorial elected bodies, giving them excellent experience in the governance of professional associations. Sandra Gilmer is no exception.
OIPMAC believes Sandra would make an excellent candidate for the elected director position on the PMAC Board. She demonstrates strong insight into key issues facing the PMAC partnership and profession, and would do much to fulfill the strategic goals of our association and represent the interests of members across the country.
In mid-April 2011, you will be receiving from PMAC an election package including a ballot to vote for a candidate to fill the elected PMAC Board Director position available this year. Members and Associates who are unable to attend the PMAC Annual General Meeting in Whistler, B.C. on June 8, 2011 to cast their vote in person can check off the candidate of their choice on their voting ballot, and send the signed ballot to the PMAC President and CEO before the PMAC AGM by the specified deadline.
When you receive your election package from PMAC in April, we strongly encourage you to check off Sandra Gilmer’s name on your voting ballot. Remember, there is only one Director position on the PMAC Board to be filled by a candidate elected from among the general membership from across Canada this year, and we believe Sandra would be an excellent choice to give us a strong voice in the governance of our profession.
We will provide more information on Sandra and the PMAC election process in the weeks to come.
Again, thank you for your continuing support of OIPMAC and the supply chain management profession.
Yours truly,
Don Harvey, CSCMP
Chair, OIPMAC Board of Directors
