Carl Bonitto, Certified SCMP

"My career in Supply Chain Management began over ten years ago at Celestica. The field was relatively new to me and I found there to be tremendous opportunities within it. As I became interested in expanding my career opportunities, I started researching the job market. With supply chain management growing in importance I noticed many positions at both small and large corporations in a variety of industries. One intriguing and constant trend I noticed was that many employers required the C.P.P. designation (now the Certified SCMP). At that point I realized that I needed to further my education and begin working towards my designation to grow my career in the field of Supply Chain Management.

In 2005 I enrolled in my first course and worked diligently through all courses and workshops until my successful completion in 2009. I attribute obtaining my Certified SCMP designation to helping open the door to the management position I currently hold in the Public Sector. The vast amount of knowledge that I gained through the program, combined with my work experience, has allowed me to add value to my agency by continuously improving processes and implementing new ideas. Today, I currently work on projects such as implementing a new purchasing computer system, building and road construction, grounds maintenance and many other operational contracts that will help reduce costs and increase productivity.

As a member of OIPMAC, I have been able to stay current with new technologies and innovations in this rapidly changing global economy. Networking with other Supply Chain professionals at member events is an added bonus, as it’s always great to benchmark and share best practices with other colleagues. This year I also began my two year term on the Zone 3 Program Planning Council to assist with planning member events and helping to ensure events are of the greatest value for supply chain professionals.

The journey to obtaining my professional designation with OIPMAC was far from easy; there were lots of late study nights and the extremely difficult final exam, but all that hard work and determination was absolutely worth it."
